Hooray! New Bourjois foundation!
I say this as I am a complete foundation-phobe usually – I’d rather not wear it at all if I can get away with it – but Bourjois for me never fails to impress. As someone with dry-ish skin with golden yellow undertones, I feel like Bourjois just caters for me. I have for a long time been a fan of the Healthy Mix and 123 range, so I was really excited and had high expectations for City Radiance, like I’m sure many of you do! But does this live up to the hype of the other Bourjois products? Has the Healthy Mix Serum finally met it’s match?
Yes, is the answer to both of those questions. I LOVE this foundation.
It’s supposed to give a fresh, even complexion, an anti-pollutant and has SPF 30 (which is really good!) and I think it delivers on all of these things. It is light and brightening, and your skin feels like it’s just had another layer of moisturiser on. It does feel a bit thicker than other Bourjois foundations, with an almost whipped cream consistency, but once blended I think that it has the same effect as a very good BB cream with lovely even coverage. I used the Real Techniques Sculpting brush to blend this in and I think it works really nicely together.
In terms of the effect it brings, think something like Nars Sheer Glow, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, BareMinerals Complexion Rescue… basically, this is right up my street. I want to tell you how dramatically different this is to the other Bourjois foundations and give you a detailed comparison, but except for the consistency and the staying power, this is very similar to the Healthy Mix Serum foundation.
This is what the product looks like before and after. Please excuse my before face 🙂
BEFORE & AFTER
You can see from my (very bad and rushed before work) photos that it does make my skin look much perkier and more hydrated. There is a very nice glow that comes with this make up and I think it does everything it says it does. Please note in the photo, the only additional makeup I am wearing is on my eyebrows and eyes – i.e. I am not wearing any concealer which I would have done to cover under my eyes and blemishes.
I also had this in the shade 03 Light Beige, which I think is a perfect match for me. It comes up the same as the other Bourjois foundation in terms of shades, which are all, as I stated earlier, are suited to those with yellow undertones or olive skin.
I really like the packaging, too, it’s more simple and lighter than their other foundations which predominantly come in glass bottles, so easier to carry around in your makeup bag. The light pink and silver design is very sweet and girly as well, which I always find with other Bourjois in the sense that the products look nicer on your dressing table or in your bag rather than a brand like Rimmel.
10 HOURS LATER…
I didn’t really need to touch up the foundation – I just added a tiny bit more concealer and blended it all in again. It definitely has better staying power than the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, perhaps with it being slightly thicker. And yet it still feels as light, which is exactly what I go for. I was surprised considering a tinted moisturiser type product usually fail in this department, but City Radiance does not!
Overall, I’m really happy with this product and would definitely recommend it. The packaging is great, the effect is very radiant, the coverage is perfect for me, any foundation with a high SPF is a winner in my eyes and is just generally an amazing foundation which is now one of my favourites.
I also matched this with the new Bourjois ‘Radiance Reveal’ concealer, which is lovely, too. Very creamy, light reflecting and doesn’t dry out your skin. The applicator is also very handy and saves squeezing out too much. See my review on it here.
Let me know what you think of this one or any other new foundations to try!
