So after becoming even more invested in skincare over the past year and slowly becoming a Caroline Hirons cult follower, I have come across the world of ‘acid toning’. Acid toning, apparently, fits into your skincare routine before applying serums or moisturiser in order to literally strip or peel your skin of any dead flakes or ingrained dirt that may lie. By exfoliating in such a chemical way, your skin is supposed to appear fresher and brighter; reviving skin by encouraging it to regenerate often.
The reasons why I decided to review these NIP + FAB ones were firstly, because I have heard so many people rave about them and saying how they make a difference to dull skin almost instantly, and secondly, I saw them in Superdrug on offer for £5 when they are usually £14.95… result! So, without further adieu, onto the product…
About the product
Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme claim to be a super strength set of exfoliating wipes packed with Glycolic acid, Salicylic acid and Lactic acid. The pads target oily and congested skin (good) and are ideal for your weekly treatment to bring the skin back to life whilst also decongest clogged pores.
Pores apparently look instantly more refined and the complexion looks much brighter.
How to use
Apply to cleansed skin 1-2 times a week after washing your face, and before using any serum/night cream. Use the rough side to exfoliate problem areas and the smooth side to spread product over.
First of all I was really impressed with the smell of these pads. Usually with these type of exfoliators, they smell quite clinical and stingy, if you know what I mean. These ones smell quite citrusy, like grapefruit, which is nice and refreshing and definitely feels less harsh.
They are also very thin pads but they are dripping in the product, which is good as one small pad has enough product for the whole of your face. The exfoliating side isn’t as harsh as some which makes it feel like you’re not scrubbing every inch of your skin away and at no point did it sting or tingle.
As for the results, I am happy to say that instantly in the morning my skin was more radiant and smooth. The texture wasn’t improved visibly straightaway, but I could feel my skin was so soft and felt really taut and healthy. It didn’t dry out my skin either, which I find many of these pads to. It gave me the perfect base for the rest of my skincare and my makeup looked great over the top of it!
I’m not sure about any long term effects just yet but will keep you updated. All in all I’m really happy with the results and feel my skin is instantly fresher and plumper. I definitely like the idea of acid toning now and these pads make it very quick, convenient and inexpensive and I’d definitely recommend to those who want to try acid toning for the first time.
If you’re quick, Superdrug currently has them on offer for only £5 per tub (with 60 pads in!) which will last you at least a month. Full price they are £14.99 which is still pretty good value for money.
Let me know what you think about these pads or if there is anything similar you would recommend. I’m definitely thinking of trying the Pixi Glow Tonic next as I’ve heard similarly great things about that, too!
