Review: Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette – Beauty Glow Edition

I was so excited to hear about this launch as this product combines EVERYTHING I love about make up at the moment.

When Charlotte Tilbury first launched her Instant Look in a Palette, I grabbed it straightaway. Who wouldn’t want all of her best-loved products all in one handy palette, gorgeous packaging, a giant and very practical mirror – all for under £50?

And I must say this has been my most-used make up item ever since. I fully admit I probably use this product almost every day. It’s great to pop in your hand bag and do your make up last minute on the Tube in the morning, giving you an extra 15 minutes in bed which is always welcome!

When the second edition of the palette came out, switching the original to the ‘natural’ palette and the new one being labelled ‘seductive’, I was just as excited. However for me, when I saw the colours, I didn’t like everything I saw. It was a much cooler-toned palette and for someone with greeny-blue eyes and yellow-toned skin, I honestly didn’t think it would suit me. Plus a grey and silver smoky-eye would not be something that I would wear everyday (nor most people, I imagine) and I think that defeats the point of having a ‘five-minute make up look’ if it’s not going for an everyday vibe. So, unfortunately I decided not to purchase it.

I do have to mention that my first palette has lasted me a whole year and it is still very much going. You will see from my photos when I compare it to the ‘Glow’ palette that although I use this literally every day, most of the products are still pretty useable. The bronzer is probably on its way out (what does that say about me?!) but apart from that, I could guarantee that this would last me another year. And for £49 for such good quality and high end make up, I’d say that is a fantastic bargain!

So, finally onto the actual product…

Firstly I think it’d be a good idea to compare this one to the natural palette. The difference between this palette and the ‘natural’ palette is not too noticeable when put next to each other. The main cheek (swish) colour is clearly much darker, as are the eyeshadows, which I imagine is to make it pop more on tanned and glowing skin. I’ve put my two palettes next to each other below for a quick comparison – sorry about the condition of my other one, it’s over a year old!

As for the effect of the palette and how it looks on me, I must say that even before I used it I automatically thought ‘I should be more tanned for this’. I haven’t used the eye makeup in these photos yet as I was on my way to work (yes, on a Saturday, I work in politics which is horrendously busy at the moment as you can imagine) and I didn’t want to look like I was going on a night out!

I used this on top of Charlotte Tilbury’s Wonderglow (as recommended) as well as IT Cosmetics CC cream and Maybelline Anti Age Dark Circles Eraser.

As you can see, it is definitely a very glowy look and makes the skin look much healthier and dewier – perfect for summer. I looked so tired and dead this morning but this makeup definitely made a big difference. The quality of the makeup is, as always with Charlotte Tilbury, top notch and feels great and luxurious on the skin.

The only slight issue I had with this was the dark coloured blusher. If you have a light or even medium skin tone, I think you have to be careful with the amount of product you use of this. I swished my brush into this and as soon as I lightly dabbed it on my cheek it was so opaque and pigmented – and very dark! Just a very light amount of this works best for my skin and of course you have to take extra care to make it is all blended in properly as the colour is so strong. You can’t tell in the photo but I had to blend a bit in with my foundation to tone it down a bit as it was a little bit crazy!

As for working on all skin tones, I do think this one is less versatile than the natural one. I have a more yellow-golden toned skin and even for me I feel this is ever so slightly too harsh at the moment for every day wear, so with pink and paler skin tones I think it would just be way too much.

For now although I love this palette and think it is great for what it is intended for – a deep summer glow- I will be using my natural palette and save this one for the summer months!

Let me know what you think if you’ve bought this – or even what you think of the other palettes as I’d love to hear from you!

As always,

Love Edie x

update! ^ me wearing the palette using all three eyeshadows. I’m now using the palette in the winter but going easy on the blush – I think it still looks good! The eyeshadows are easy to use and give you a step-by-step if you’re not sure what you’re doing. I love the second colour and think it really brings out blue and green eyes!

  1. Such a pretty palette. I’m trying to convince myself that I don’t need this but doing a poor job of it.
Good to know about the blusher being very pigmented, I will keep that in mind.

    1. Thanks for your comment! Yes it is very pretty, have you tried any of the other variations? I still think I like the original ‘natural’ one the best but will have to test this one again throughout the summer x

  2. My natural beauty palette is a year old too but it’s the face bronzer that’s used up more than half. The ones that got the most use were the face bronze, cheek swish and cheek pop. I hardly touched the highlight. I’m tempted to get the beauty glow but I’m fair to medium with yellowy Asian skin tone. Torn.

    1. Thanks for your comment! It’s the same with me too – I use the bronzer the most. I have quite a yellow skin tone as well and while I do really like this palette I think the original one suited me slightly better. I will have to use this one when I have a tan though and see how it works!

  3. I have the original, and I absolutely love it. I was (and still am) curious about the glow palette, but I was afraid it would be too dark for me. I have similar colouring to you, so I was happy to come across your review! I think the palette looks awesome on you. It makes me even more tempted to get this! Have you tried the eyeshadows yet? What do you think of them?

    1. Hi! I was just going through my comments and realised I hadn’t seen yours so sorry for taking ages to reply! Now that I’ve used the palette for longer I think I actually prefer the beauty glow one to the original, I’ve learnt just the right mix with the blushers so that the darker one isn’t too pigmented.

I’ve tried the dolce vita eyeshadow quad previously as I borrowed it from a friend and I think they are really good. They don’t have much fallout and last all day. I haven’t bought one for myself yet as to be honest I love the ones in the face palettes!

      How about you?

      Edie x

      1. I just realised you meant the eyeshadows in the palette! Yes I have. I absolutely love them – the bronze coloured one in the middle is really pretty. Looks really good with light eyes – makes mine look much greener!
